Profile and Expertise

Melissa is a Partner of the firm. She is an advocate and solicitor in Singapore and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2008.

She has represented many clients in litigation matters in the Supreme Court and State Courts of the Republic of Singapore and in arbitrations at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and arbitrations under the Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce.

Melissa has a broad range of experience in contentious and non-contentious commercial disputes. She has particular experience in dealing with shareholders’ and directors’ disputes such as minority oppression claims and allegations of breaches of fiduciary duties; employment disputes; defamation; technology and media disputes involving allegations of breaches of licensing conditions; tenancy disputes; commodities disputes; disputes involving financial institutions; and white-collar crime.


Litigation & Dispute Resolution
・Advised and successfully acted for a regional company, Spectramed Pte Ltd in a claim for breach of fiduciary duties, minority oppression and in obtaining a Mareva injunction against one of its directors

・Advised and acted for an ex-employee of the Royal Bank of Scotland (“RBS”) in defending a claim brought in the Singapore Supreme Court by an investor against RBS London, RBS Singapore and the ex-employee for fraud, negligent misrepresentation and other breaches of duty. The claim was touted to be for approximately US$3.6 billion.

・Advised and successfully defended MRI Trading Pte Ltd (“MRI”) in a claim in the Singapore Supreme Court by Rudhra Minerals Pte Ltd for breach of contract due to MRI’s failure to deliver coal allegedly purchased.

International & Domestic Arbitration
・Advised and acted for two IT companies from Singapore and Malaysia in defending claims made by a US-based multinational software developer in 8 arbitrations in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre for alleged breaches of the licensing agreements. The claims made in the arbitrations amounted to approximately US$42 million.

・Advised and successfully acted for Bremer Landesbank in a mortgage enforcement action for the sum of S$10 million against the owners of the vessel the “Star Jupiter”.

Criminal Law
・Advised and successfully defended the world’s leading tobacco manufacturer in a prosecution by the Health Sciences Authority for an alleged breach of licensing conditions.
