Edward Nicholas Ong

Lawyer: Singapore

Profile and Expertise

Edward is one of only a few Singaporean lawyers who are effectively bilingual in both English and Japanese. He focuses on international arbitration, but also handles cross-border litigation and dispute resolution and provides general corporate legal advice to Japanese clients.

Edward has experience in litigation before the Singapore High Court, and in arbitration before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Besides those governed by the laws of Singapore, he also has experience handling issues governed by the laws of Japan, Indonesia and Bangladesh. In particular, Edward’s arbitration experience includes infrastructure and project-related disputes.

Before attending law school at the Singapore Management University (SMU), Edward spent a stint studying the politics of Japan at Waseda University in Tokyo, where he was selected as the cohort valedictorian. He then graduated from the SMU with a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD, Magna Cum Laude), and was then called to the Singapore Bar in May 2023.
