Edward Nicholas Ong

Lawyer: Singapore

Profile and Expertise

Edward is one of only a few Singaporean lawyers who are effectively bilingual in both English and Japanese. Before attending law school at the Singapore Management University (SMU), he spent a stint studying the politics of Japan at Waseda University in Tokyo, where he was selected as the cohort valedictorian.

After graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD, Magna Cum Laude) from the SMU, Edward was called to the Singapore Bar in 2023. He handles a wide variety of cases for Japanese clients in Singapore, but focuses mainly on cross-border dispute resolution including civil litigation and arbitration. He has experience in complex commercial cases before the Singapore High Court, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Besides his fluency in the Japanese language and culture, Edward is also familiar with issues of private international law between Singapore and Japan. Besides those governed by the laws of Singapore, Edward also has experience handling arbitrations governed by foreign laws, including those of Japan and Bangladesh. His ability to navigate such cases adeptly is a testament to his commitment to the art of advocacy.
