Ratana successfully completed his doctoral course at Kobe University Graduate School of Law where he specialized in Tort Law and Car Accident Compensation Liability for 6 years. He dedicated over 2 years to a project concerning Civil Code of Cambodia and has been an active contributor to numerous research committees. Recognized as an expert in both the Civil Code and Tort Law, Ratana is proficient in Japanese, English and Khmer.
